American Idol’s top 11 contestants are the latest to create a public service video about the dangers of plastics pollution. They join the ranks of famous performers like Jack Johnson and Benicio del Toro, asking us to refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle and talking about the dangers of plastics pollution.

Hey you! The one on our super-cool Bulletin Bottle website. Why are you here? I’m sure you know that water bottles are one of the hottest, trendiest items out there to put your message on. And, it’s definitely a bonus that customized water bottles practically shout, “This organization is eco-friendly! You can feel good associating with them.”
But do you know WHY reusable water bottles are so environmentally friendly? Do you know why it’s so devastating to the Earth to use disposable bottles?
The people at The Story of Stuff Project have put together a great video about how this bottled water business came about, why it’s hurting the world, and what you can do about it.
People in the U.S. buy enough bottles of water each week to circle the globe more than 5 times. Each year, making the plastic water bottles used in the U.S. takes enough oil and energy to fuel a million cars.
Stars Celebrate Environment at EMAs
The Environmental Media Awards were held on October 15 on the Warner Bros. lot in Southern California. The ceremony honored individuals, corporations and productions for their planet conservation efforts—and celebrities walked the green carpet!
Justin Timberlake received the EMA Futures Award for his Mirimichi golf course in his native Tennessee. “We made a commitment to building a sustainable model for a golf course and we honor the land and the ecosystem that Mirimichi shares with nature,” he said, proud of the official sanctuary certification it received from Audubon International. “Doing things the green way is not always the cheapest way in the short term, but it’s the most sustainable way and the right way in the long term to do things. For those of us who travel the world making movies, TV shows and music we have to be aware of our carbon footprints.”
The History Of Tritan Copolyester
Have you heard about Tritan water bottles? They’re one of the best BPA-free bottle alternatives on the market. Tritan water bottles are ultra tough—they are impact and heat resistant, which means they are tough to shatter or melt. They also are leach proof, safe for use in dishwashers, and resistant to odors, tastes and stains. Finally (and very importantly) Tritan water bottles are FDA approved. But what is the history of Tritan copolyester? Where did it come from and why are Tritan bottles so popular now? Continue reading

Bulletin Bottle Staff Review: Spigot Stainless Bottle
Every week we pick one or two of our water bottles and have our staff members put them through the wringer. We’ll comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen our Spigot Stainless Bottle.
We really like the overall appearance of the Spigot Stainless Bottle. It’s simple, with gentle contour—yet still fits in standard cupholders. The spout size is perfect for fast water flow—especially after a workout. Our staff tester also really liked the convenience of the flip-up cap. Fluid didn’t leak out, despite the lack of a lid lock. We do wish, however, that this bottle had a finger loop (though it does have a place to attach a carabiner and/or keyring).
Disposable Drink Bottles: MA Considers Expanding Bill
Massachusetts’ bottle bill currently requires deposits only on soda and beer bottles and cans. However, lawmakers are trying to expand the 5-cent deposit to also include sport drink and bottled water bottles, as well as other beverage containers.
Almost half of the cities and towns in Massachusetts have passed resolutions supporting the expansion and a recent poll found that 77 percent of the public supports it.
About 80 percent of soda and other containers covered under the existing bottle deposit law are redeemed or recycled but only an estimated 22 percent of other uncovered bottles are recycled. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection said municipalities could save a combined $7 million a year in avoided trash costs under expected improvements in recycling.
The bill would also re-establish a Clean Environment Fund so that unreturned deposit money can be set aside for recycling and environmental projects and boost a fee that beverage distributors pay to bottle redemption centers.
Bulletin Bottle Staff Reviews: Velocity Sport Bottle and Wave Bottles
Every week we pick two of our water bottles and have our staff members put them through the wringer. We’ll comment on the outcomes here (and encourage our clients to do the same!). This week, we’ve chosen our Velocity Sport Bottle and our two Wave bottles: Large Wave Water Bottle and Small Wave Water Bottle.
The Velocity Sport Bottle is great. Our staff has seen it for sale and in use all over the place. It’s a popular design that was well liked by our tester. She really liked the drinking spout (and locking lid) and the overall size of the bottle. The lid stayed locked, but at the same time it was easy to open on the go. What she didn’t like about this bottle is the lid composition. She said it seemed a little flimsy—but she also worked it hard during testing and didn’t have any problems with it.
Our Small Wave Water Bottle and Large Wave Water Bottle share a simple design, with some nice touches. Our tester liked the angled finger hole on the bottles. She also liked the rubber accents on the lid—she thought it makes the bottles feel substantial and more expensive. The lids screwed on easily and tightly. She did feel like the bottle lips were a little awkward, as though they didn’t curve down on themselves enough. She also noticed a very faint metal smell the first time she used the bottles. This is somewhat common with all stainless steel bottles, though.
